Finding great mentors can have a profound impact on your journey to become a physician/scientist, and it will change your life. But particularly early in training (undergrad, medical school, graduate school), regular curricula may not equip you with the skills nor strategies necessary to do so, leaving the realm of mentorship feeling somewhat nebulous. Nonetheless, finding people in these fields that can provide insight, guidance, and buy-in to your success is one of the first ways that you can start to truly personalize your journey in medicine/science, and if you don’t know this yet let me say it here - there are MANY people out there throughout all stages of physician scientist training who would be delighted to mentor you. My own journey would not have been possible without an abundance of phenomenal people from whom I am fortunate to receive mentorship. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my current role is the opportunity to pay it forward to future generations of physicians and scientists, so if there is any way I can provide support, please reach out - I am always happy to set up a phone or zoom call to discuss your training goals and help in any way I can!
